TANZANIA HOISTING ICAO FLAG AT UHURU PEAK

The United Republic of Tanzania in collaboration with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) ESAF Regional Office based in Nairobi have organised the hoisting of ICAO flag at Uhuru Peak, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, to mark the 75th anniversary of signing the Chicago Convention which also ushered in the existence of the global civil aviation body – the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

 

The Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) Director General, Mr. Hamza S. Johari, will lead the expedition team of about 20 people ready to start the mountain trekking from 19 to 23 August 2019.

 

The ceremony for flagging-off the expedition team will be held at Marangu,Moshi in Kilimanjaro region on 19August 2019 and will be attended by the ICAO Regional Director, - East and Southern Africa Regional Office, Mr. Barry Kashambo.

 

Hoisting an ICAO flag at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro will be an honour to our country and will bring us several advantages, including promotion of aviation and tourism industry in Tanzania. Said DGTCAA Mr. Johari.

 

The hoisting of an ICAO flag at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro is among the several activities, which ICAO has planned to be carried our prior and during the 40th ICAO General Assembly in commemorating the 75th anniversary of signing the Chicago Convention.

 

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a United Nations specialized agency, established by States in 1944 to manage the administration and governance of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention).

 

ICAO works with the Convention’s 193 Member States and industry groups to reach consensus on international civil aviation Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and policies in support of a safe, efficient, secure, economically sustainable and environmentally responsible civil aviation sector.
