Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority holds a virtual public hearing for licensing

For the first time, Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA), following the COVID -19 pandemic, has conducted a Licensing Board Meeting virtually to consider applications for air and ground handling services licenses from several Companies/Operators.

The virtual meeting for the 30th Licensing Board involving stakeholders’ participation (Public Hearing) was held on June 10th, 2020. This is the first time for TCAA to conduct a public hearing part of the licensing board meeting online and indeed several participants turned up for the public hearing.

Stakeholders spared adequate time to discuss the 25 applications for licenses (18 for air services and 7 for ground handling services) which were thereafter submitted to the board for consideration with comments from stakeholders including one objection by Kilimanjaro SAR Limited against State Aviation Company Limited. The Board made the following decision on the applications:

The meeting was very interactive and therefore productive since the Board was able to smoothly make decisions after the comments from the public through the public hearing session.

The detailed Board decision is expected to be published on the TCAA’s website and newspapers on 11 and 12 June 2020 respectively as required by law. Applicants will also be served with letters of decisions for their respective applications. The applicants are advised to observe the requirement of obtaining the license before the date of expiry of the offer by the Board.
