The Ministry of Works and Transport has noted with serious concerns the publication of statement regarding the existence of civil unrest in the United Republic of Tanzania. The statement was made available on KLM official website on 27th January, 2023 when communicating the cancelation of flights scheduled to arrive at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) and Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA).
This statement is baseless, alarmist, unfounded, inconsiderate and insensitive and has caused unnecessary fear and panic to the general public and aviation industry at large. The public is urged to ignore the statement.
As of to date, there are no recorded civil unrest within the territory of the United Republic of Tanzania which impair the Aviation operations within the country.
The Ministry wishes to inform the public and international community that, Airport operations at JNIA and KIA are ongoing. On 27th January, 2023 at JNIA, 17 out of 18 International Scheduled Flights with 2545 passengers were facilitated while at KIA 5 international flights with 823 passengers were facilitated. Until 3:15 PM today, 12 International Scheduled Flights at JNIA were facilitated.
The Ministry continues to ensure that, the Aviation industry is safe and secure in the United Republic of Tanzania as per National and International Standards.
