Dar es Salaam Hosts AFI Peer Reviewers’ Refresher Training Workshop 2026

Dar es Salaam has become a focal point for aviation safety this week as Tanzania is hosting the Africa–Indian Ocean (AFI) Peer Reviewers’ Refresher Training Workshop 2026 in Dar es Salaam. The workshop held at Four Points by Sheraton from March 23 to 26 brings together aviation experts and peer reviewers from more than 15 African countries under a shared commitment to strengthening the safety and performance of Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs).

Organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in collaboration with the Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO) and hosted by the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA), the workshop forms part of the AFI ANSP Peer Review Program, a key continental initiative designed to promote continuous improvement through structured, collaborative assessments.

The workshop was officially inaugurated by the Acting Director General of TCAA, Eng. John Nzulule, who emphasized the strategic importance of peer reviews in enhancing safety, strengthening regulatory compliance and improving operational performance across African ANSPs. His remarks highlighted the growing recognition that sustainable aviation safety can best be achieved through cooperation, shared learning, and harmonized practices across the region.

The four day training provides a platform to refresh technical competencies and strengthen the effectiveness of peer review processes. Beyond the technical sessions, the workshop also fosters collaboration among ANSPs, enabling participants to learn from one another and collectively address common operational challenges.

TCAA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote aviation safety across the continent, noting that the workshop outcomes are expected to enhance cooperation among African ANSPs and contribute to safer more efficient and more reliable air navigation services.

As Africa’s aviation sector continues to grow, initiatives such as the AFI Peer Review Program remain essential in ensuring that safety keeps pace with expansion anchored in strong partnerships, shared responsibility, and a collective vision for excellence in air navigation services.
