DG TCAA RECEIVES ICAO TEAM ON AVIATION SAFETY SUPPORT MISSION

Director General of the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA), Dr. Jabiri K. Bakari, on June 15, 2026, received a delegation from the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) East and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESAF) on a technical assistance mission aimed at strengthening Tanzania’s compliance with international aviation safety standards ahead of a scheduled audit in 2027.

The delegation was received at the TCAA headquarters in the Banana Area of Dar es Salaam, where discussions focused on enhancing aviation safety oversight and improving compliance with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Bakari reiterated Tanzania’s commitment as an ICAO contracting State to strengthening aviation safety oversight and monitoring systems. He said compliance with international standards is critical to improving aviation safety and the efficiency of air transport services in the country.

The mission is led by ICAO ESAF Safety Officer Mr. Zeudu Teklay, who said the visit is intended to provide technical guidance and conduct a preliminary assessment of aviation safety oversight management systems to identify areas requiring improvement before the formal Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) audit.

Teklay commended TCAA’s efforts to strengthen its regulatory systems and underscored the importance of continued collaboration in ensuring ICAO standards are achieved and sustained.

Tanzania is scheduled to undergo the ICAO Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme in early 2027, with preparations underway to ensure the country attains the required level of effective implementation of international aviation safety standards.
