Following Government directives on preparedness for the potential impacts of El Niño, the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) has continued to strengthen measures to ensure that the aviation sector is adequately prepared for possible disruptions arising from the anticipated weather conditions.

The measures follow an advisory issued by the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) on 18 August 2026 regarding the potential influence of El Niño in 2026. The advisory indicates a high likelihood of adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, flooding, strong winds and thunderstorms.

Such conditions may disrupt airport operations, electricity supply, communication systems, road access and other critical infrastructure supporting air transport services. Timely preparedness and effective coordination are therefore essential to safeguard aviation safety and maintain operational continuity.

TCAA calls upon air operators, airport operators, air navigation service providers, other aviation service providers, staff and relevant stakeholders to review and strengthen their emergency preparedness, business continuity and contingency plans. Stakeholders are also urged to remain vigilant, closely monitor official weather forecasts and advisories issued by TMA, and take timely precautionary measures to protect critical infrastructure and operational systems.

The Authority will continue to monitor weather forecasts, advisories and other relevant information issued by TMA and provide appropriate updates and guidance as further information becomes available.
