AFRICA’S AVIATION COMMUNITY PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE LATE PETER ERASTO CHINYAMA

The sudden passing of Mr Peter Erasto Chinyama on Friday, 6 November 2026, was solemnly commemorated yesterday during the Africa–Indian Ocean Aviation System Planning and Implementation Group (AASPG) meeting held in Livingstone, Zambia.

Mr Chinyama was a Senior Air Traffic Management Officer at the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA) Headquarters, where he also served as an Instrument Flight Procedure Designer. Beyond his responsibilities at TCAA, he was a distinguished African Flight Procedure Programme (AFPP) Instructor, becoming the first AFPP Instructor in 2013.

Throughout his distinguished career, he trained more than 150 aviation professionals across Africa and contributed to the design of Instrument Flight Procedures (IFPs) in several African countries, including Botswana and Eswatini. His work significantly strengthened aviation safety, professional capacity and air navigation services across the continent.

The meeting, attended by delegates from 48 African countries and representatives of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Air Transport Association (IATA), Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO), Airports Council International (ACI) and other international aviation organisations, provided an opportunity to honour his life and remarkable professional legacy.

In his memory, delegates observed a moment of silence in recognition of his invaluable contribution to African aviation.

Mr Chinyama’s legacy will live on through the many aviation professionals he mentored and the lasting impact of his work across Africa.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
